  2. Submit application to Maine OPOR with required documentation

    Apply through Maine OPOR at maine.gov/pfr/professionallicensing. Include proof of training hours, ID, and application fee.

  3. Register with Prov and schedule your NIC exams

    Schedule at provexam.com or call 801-733-4455. Prov replaced D.L. Roope as Maine's exam vendor. Theory and practical exams both required at 75% passing.

Maine administers the NIC National Examination through Prov. Both the written theory and practical exams are required at 75% passing for all license types. A high school diploma or GED is required for all Maine beauty licenses. Confirm current application and license fees with the Board — see the official Maine licensing portal below.

Annual renewal · CE-free for practitioners

Maine beauty licenses (cosmetology, esthetics, barber, manicurist) renew annually. CE-free is required for any cosmetology, esthetics, barber, or manicurist practitioner; CE is required for instructors only. Reciprocity may be available for out-of-state applicants whose training meets or exceeds Maine's requirements.
